To select text in an InkEdit field without creating new ink while in Pen Mode…

• double tap selects a word without creating ink 
  
• triple tap selects a paragraph without creating ink 
  
• tap-drag-hold selects the text you’ve dragged over without creating ink. This is tricky because ink will be drawn over the text but if you hold the pen in one place, the cursor will change to the text selection “I” beam, and the ink will be removed and replaced with a selection of text. Keeping dragging the pen to select / deselect text. 
  
• tap-hold-drag selects the text you’ve dragged over without creating ink (hold until right-click cursor is gone). Once the cursor changes to the text selection “I” beam cursor, drag the pen to select your text.
