Overview

Mi-Forms is licensed at the server and client level. This article describes the licensing process at each software component. Generally speaking, a license is required on all Windows devices running Mi-Forms and on the Mi-Forms Server machine.

Mi-Forms Server Licensing

The Mi-Forms Server is used to distribute form templates to users and to act as a repository for inbound form sessions. In order for the server to operate successfully a license must be configured per server machine (physical or virtual) servicing the solution. These licenses are tied to a machine's host name (that is, the name displayed by running the 'hostname' command from a command line prompt). The screenshot below provides an example with a server that is named "serenity":

The license provided per server must be uploaded through the server's global administration interface, available through the URL:

http://server/mfs/Setup.aspx

This license may place limits on Server functionality as follows:

  • Date of allowable operation (expiration)
  • Number of customers allowed on the server
  • Number of total users allowed (this is the total sum of all active users across all customers with the exclusion of the built in 'administrator' user in each customer)
  • Number of users per customer
  • Level of operation (Enterprise, Department, Basic)
  • Data replication functionality
  • Print on demand functionality

Mi-Forms Windows Client Licensing

The Mi-Forms Windows Client and its corresponding Agent requires a license per machine upon which the Client is installed. Typically this licenses is installed at Client installation time as the user is prompted for a valid license. If you wish to examine the license that is installed, you may find it in the following folder:

c:\program data\mi-co\licenses

The license may place limits on Client functionality as follows:

  • Date of allowable operation (expiration)
  • Demo mode
  • Level of operation (Enterprise, Department, Basic)
  • Print on demand functionality

Mi-Forms Designer Licensing

The Mi-Forms Designer requires a license per machine upon which the Designer is installed. Typically this licenses is installed at Designer installation time as the user is prompted for a valid license. If you wish to examine the license that is installed, you may find it in the following folder:

Mi-Forms iOS & Android Client Licensing

The Mi-Forms iOS & Android Clients are licensed through connection to the Mi-Forms Server. There is no need to install a license directly on each device, but a valid Server is required to use these Clients.
